ABOUT ME/SOBRE MÍ
My name is Itza Maray Arciga. I am completing my Master of Education in School Counseling through the University of Southern California, Rossier School of Education. I received my Bachelor’s of Art in Sociology and a minor in Child Development, and a minor in Spanish from California State University, Chico. I am a first-generation Mexican-American, originally from Northern California. I am passionate about helping first-generation, low-income students. I want to encourage our future student’s goals and objectives, as I was in their shoes once. My passion grew to help the youth while working at the Boys & Girls Club. I have been part of the Boys & Girls Club movement since 2013. This has allowed me to work with many students of similar backgrounds. Being able to give back to my community is my ultimate goal in life
Mi nombre es Itza Maray Arciga. Estoy completando mi Maestría en Educación en Consejería Escolar a través de la Escuela de Educación Rossier de la Universidad del Sur de California. Recibí mi Licenciatura en Sociología y una especialización en Desarrollo Infantil, y una especialización en Español de la Universidad Estatal de California, Chico. Soy mexicana-estadounidense de primera generación, originario del norte de California. Me apasiona ayudar a los estudiantes de primera generación y de bajos ingresos. Quiero alentar las metas y objetivos de nuestros futuros estudiantes, ya que una vez estuve en su lugar. Mi pasión creció para ayudar a los jóvenes mientras trabajaba en Boys & Girls Club. He sido parte del movimiento Boys & Girls Club desde 2013. Esto me ha permitido trabajar con muchos estudiantes de antecedentes similares. Poder retribuir a mi comunidad es mi objetivo final en la vida..

My approach to counseling is a blend of a Person-Centered Approach and Solution-Focused. I believe in providing the student with a safe space for them to be able to focus on their well-being. Through this pandemic, students have struggled and are in need of guidance. Helping them find their voice, will help them be a successful student. I also want to help students change their mindset by helping them find solutions rather than focusing on problems. By doing so, the student knows that they have the power to change their mindset.
Mi enfoque de la consejería es una combinación de enfoque centrado en la persona y centrado en soluciones. Creo en brindarle al estudiante un espacio seguro para que pueda concentrarse en su bienestar. A través de esta pandemia, los estudiantes han luchado y necesitan orientación. Ayudarlos a encontrar su voz los ayudará a ser estudiantes exitosos. También quiero ayudar a los estudiantes a cambiar su forma de pensar ayudándolos a encontrar soluciones en lugar de enfocarse en los problemas. Al hacerlo, el estudiante sabe que tiene el poder de cambiar su forma de pensar.
